Congressman Chris Deluzio Gets Stuff Done for Western Pennsylvanians in 2023
CARNEGIE, PA – In his first year in office, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) got a lot of work done for the people of Western Pennsylvania.
From funding for public safety and mental health services, to pushing for rail safety and veterans care, he is fighting for an economy that works for everyone and is delivering results for the good people in Pennsylvania's 17th Congressional District.
“It is the honor of my life to represent the people of Western Pennsylvania in Congress,” said Rep. Deluzio. “They sent me down to Washington to fight for all of us and for a brighter future—and that’s what I work to do every single day.”
In his first year, Congressman Deluzio served on the House Committees on Veterans’ Affairs and Armed Services, and he introduced 10 bills, including the Bipartisan Railway Safety Act (to improve freight rail safety after the Norfolk Southern East Palestine disaster) and the Striking and Locked Out Workers Protection Act (to protect workers like those at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from getting kicked off their healthcare while exercising their right to strike).
Rep. Deluzio’s amendments to bring more transparency into defense contractor price gouging and to help clean up forever chemicals at National Guard and Air National facilities like those near Pittsburgh International Airport passed into law. He also co-sponsored more than 225 bills, including the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to protect the union way of live and the Freedom to Vote Act to defend our democracy.
Congressman Deluzio hosted nine town hall events to hear from constituents in a range of formats and settings, a veteran’s resource fair, and additional Veterans Service Organization (VSO) office hours events, and he and his team closed more than 1,100 constituent cases—saving the people of Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District more than $4.5 million. Through his leadership, his district received more than $480 million in federal grants and contracts in 2023, including $100 million for navy defense contracts at a local company in Cheswick and more than $142 million for Parkway East and MLK Jr. East Busway improvements.
Additionally, Congressman Deluzio’s wins from 2023 also include:
- Successfully pushing for the Pittsburgh region’s official designation as a Federal Workforce Hub
- Securing a land easement from Norfolk Southern Railroad to allow Midland to do water system repairs
- Plugging abandoned oil and gas wells across the region with federal Infrastructure Law funds
- $143 million for expanded passenger rail out of Pittsburgh
- $45.6 million for Pittsburgh International Airport
- $14.5 million for opioid response programs in Allegheny County
- $10 million to support local Western Pennsylvania clean energy manufacturers
- $8.5 million for gun violence prevention and crisis intervention
- $8 million for conservation efforts and tree planting in Allegheny County
- $3.5 million for Moon Township Transportation Improvements to connect the new Marketplace District with the wider community
- $1.6 million for a Cheswick glass company’s efforts to manufacture more efficient solar panels.
- $1.14 million for police, public safety, and addiction recovery across Allegheny and Beaver Counties
- $1 million total for brownfield remediation in the Borough of Ambridge and Beaver County’s Darlington Brickyard ($500,000 each)
- $800,000 for updates and safety improvements for Penn Hills’ Rodi Road
- $644,705 for worker safety research on Western Pennsylvania farms
- $600,000 for child care center capacity-building in Allegheny County
- $587,000 for Beaver County Airport (BVI) improvements and upgrades
- $328,826.84 to improve public health and climate resiliency efforts in Allegheny County
- $320,843 to support DNA evidence analysis at the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office
- $275,000 for cerebral aneurysm testing work at Western Pennsylvania bioscience company
- $170,000 for North Hills Police K9 Units
- $150,000 for STEM education at Title I schools in Western Pennsylvania
- $31,448 Department of Agriculture grant for energy efficiency improvements at local machine parts company
