Rep. Deluzio Announces $800,000 for Updates and Safety Improvements for Penn Hills’ Rodi Road

July 6, 2023

PENN HILLS, P.A. — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced $800,000 in Community Project Funding for the Municipality of Penn Hills’ efforts to beautify, upgrade, update, and make safer the sidewalk and pedestrian infrastructure in Penn Hills along Rodi Road.

Penn Hills is the second most populous municipality in Allegheny County and, like many communities in Western Pennsylvania, has some older, unsafe, and outdated infrastructure. Rodi Road is one of the biggest conduits through the community, but narrow rights of way, multiple curb cuts, poor lighting, and older building designs along the road can be unsafe and need updating.

“The people of Penn Hills, and of Western Pennsylvania, deserve infrastructure they can count on, that connects communities, and that supports not only cars, but also allows pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities to get where they need to go safely” said Rep. Chris Deluzio. “That’s why today, I am proud to announce that $800,000 of federal Community Project Funding money has been awarded to Penn Hills for streetscaping and infrastructure improvements along Rodi Road. I am thankful to my friend and predecessor former Congressman Conor Lamb for his work in the last Congress supporting this project.”

“This is part of a dream come true,” said Penn Hills Mayor Pauline Calabrese. “You can’t make these kinds of dreams come true without this sort of funding. Rodi Road is our main corridor, our main business section, and these federal dollars are an investment in our community, an investment in our economic development, and a path to an even brighter future for Penn Hills.”

The funding that Rep. Deluzio announced today comes from Community Project Funding appropriations from FY 2023—money that is requested specifically by a Member of Congress for community-supported projects in their district. This project will help safely connect attendees of the nearby Penn Hill Senior Center and transit riders at a nearby bus stop with a beautiful volunteer-run flower garden at the corner of Maple Lane and Rodi Road. Further, these improvements will lay the groundwork to boost much-needed development and business investment along Rodi Road.
