Deluzio Celebrates $14.5 Million CDC Grant to the Allegheny County Health Department
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio celebrates the $14,500,000 grant to the Allegheny County Health Department from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This money will support the Health Department’s programmatic efforts to reduce opioid overdose deaths and assist people in recovery.
“Saving lives and interrupting opioid overdoses takes strategic precision, creative approaches, and deep investment in the community,” said Rep. Deluzio. “These federal funds will strengthen Allegheny County’s Health Department fight against overdose deaths and help more people reach recovery. I’m glad the federal government is showing up for the people of Western Pennsylvania, and I look forward to seeing how public health and safety in our region benefits from this investment.”
This grant builds on previous funds that the Allegheny County Health Department received from the CDC Overdose Data to Action (OD2A). The Health Department used those funds to make it easier to obtain overdose reversal drugs, support formerly incarcerated people as they rejoin society, and connect patients to important medicine on their journey to recovery.
This $14.5 million grant is a second level of investment that will be used to equip grassroots organizations for their harm reduction education work, to address and relieve physical and mental health issues around homelessness, and to work with community partners and local providers to collect data for the most updated, accurate picture on the state of the opioid crisis in Western Pennsylvania.
