Rep. Deluzio, Whip Clark Discuss Democrat-Led Federal Investments into Infrastructure and Childcare at Western Pennsylvania Childcare

December 2, 2023

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) and House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-05) toured Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and visited an on-site childcare center La Petite Academy. Whip Clark is a top-ranking member of House Democratic Leadership and one of Congress’ biggest champions for childcare. She joined Rep. Deluzio, PIT Airport CEO Christina Cassotis, and other representatives from the airport and childcare center for the tours.

Along with discussing the infrastructure investments of the airport, the legislators highlighted the importance of efforts by the Biden Administration and congressional Democrats to expand high-quality, affordable childcare services to more Americans. One such policy proposal is the Child Care Stabilization Act, which would extend vital stabilization funding to prevent a potential crisis for families and our economy by ensuring childcare providers can continue serving families across the country. Whip Clark is the lead sponsor of the Child Care Stabilization Act and Rep. Deluzio is a co-sponsor.

The two congressmembers also discussed the lack of affordable childcare in the country, including House Republican indifference to the rising issues of the national childcare crisis and their inaction to stop the expiration of transformative childcare investments from the American Rescue Plan.

“This childcare center at Pittsburgh International Airport is an important model for other employers in Western Pennsylvania and across the country, and I am grateful Whip Clark could join me today to see it. Making childcare more affordable should be a no-brainer that will lower costs for working families,” said Rep. Deluzio. “The childcare crisis is bad for workers, bad for kids and parents, and bad for our economy—and fighting to lower costs for America’s families and workers should be a bipartisan issue. Democrats have a proven record of investing in our childcare system, but House Republican Leadership has ignored the cries of help from American families and employers alike. Childcare is a foundational industry for our economy, and we need to act like it. It’s time to pass Whip’s Clark’s Child Care Stabilization Act.”

"I'm thrilled to be in the Keystone State with Congressman Deluzio," said Whip Clark. "Chris knows what it’s like to balance kids and a career. Every day in Washington, he’s fighting to make our economy work for working families. Democrats know that means investing in America — upgrading our airports while supporting the workers who make them run. That's why we delivered $45 million to Pittsburgh International Airport through our Infrastructure Law and why we're fighting to get the Child Care Stabilization Act to President Biden's desk."
