Rep. Deluzio Statement to Trump Indictment on Charges to Subvert the Will of the Voters in the 2020 Election
CARNEGIE, PA — Following the news of former President Donald Trump’s third indictment, this one for his efforts to overthrow the United States government following his defeat in the 2020 election, former voting rights attorney and Congressman Chris Deluzio (D, PA-17) released the following statement:
“I’ll lay it out as clearly as I can: Donald Trump tried to overthrow our government and our Constitution. He found aid and comfort from lots of people—including many elected Republicans in Pennsylvania who, like him, violated their oaths to the Constitution. The threat he and they pose to our democracy remains. And know this: when it comes to defending your freedom and our country, I won’t give them an inch.
“The justice system should run its course. And just like anyone who is charged with serious crimes, Donald Trump should receive a fair trial, due process, and all the rights and protections afforded to a criminal defendant.
“In the meantime, I will remain focused on serving the people of Western Pennsylvania and doing my duty to protect our freedom and our shared prosperity.”
