Rep. Deluzio Celebrates Over $3 Million in Federal Funds for Early Childhood Education

February 28, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced $3,322,211 to bolster early childhood education at the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center (COTRAIC). These funds come from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will specifically invest in the Center’s Early Head Start Program, which serves children ages 0-3 in the Native American community and other historically marginalized and underserved groups in Western Pennsylvania.

“Early childhood education helps kids thrive and succeed in the years to come. But so many working families struggle to find high-quality childcare that doesn’t break the bank,” said Rep. Deluzio. “I’m proud to announce more than $3 million to the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center for their Early Head Start Program. This investment will support kids and boost our economy by providing more parents with childcare they depend on.”

This grant award comes to COTRAIC through the Administration for Children and Families and the Office of Head Start, a division within HHS. Head Start programs help young children from families who live below the federal poverty line to reach the developmental milestones they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Early Head Start has the same qualifications, but specifically serves infants, toddlers, and young pre-school age children up to age three. This grant award gives 50% of the annual Head Start level for the first period of the five-year project for COTRAIC.
