Deluzio Statement on Temporary Government Funding Measure, Need to Stop Constant Shutdown Threat
WASHINGTON, D.C. – After the passage of yet another short-term continuing resolution funding measure—the fourth this Congress—Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) released the following video statement:
“I am glad to vote and see the House pass a continuing resolution, a stopgap measure, to keep the government funded.
“This Republican chaos and dysfunction, it has got to end. They’ve taken us to the brink of government shutdown several times.
“We, of course, all saw the chaos around the Speaker election, and worse. I was sent here by the good people of Western Pennsylvania to govern and to get things done.
“I remain committed to work with whoever I need to do that, but I need Republican leadership to step up, to stop this chaos, and to be a governing partner in Washington.”
An agreement has been reached on six funding bills: Agriculture-Food and Drug Administration, Commerce-Justice and Science, Energy and Water Development, Interior, Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, and Transportation-Housing and Urban Development. Over the next week, text will be finalized and this package of six Appropriations bills should be voted on and enacted before March 8, thereby funding these programs for the rest of this fiscal year, through September 30, 2024.
The remaining six Appropriations bills: Defense, Financial Services and General Government, Homeland Security, Labor-Health and Human Services-Education, Legislative Branch, and State and Foreign Operations should hopefully be voted on and passed into law before their new deadline of March 22, thereby securing funding for these programs through September 30, 2024.
