Deluzio Statement on Passage of Resolution to Continue Government Funding
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Once again, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) today voted to pass the bipartisan Continuing Resolution that will extend current government funding levels into March, extending funding past the current January 19th and February 2nd expiration dates.
After the vote, Congressman Deluzio released the following statement:
“Congress has a responsibility to keep the government funded, and for the entirety of my time in Congress so far, I have been fighting to do just that.
“Unfortunately, some of my Republican colleagues do not share this view and are continually pushing for the government to shut down. They simply cannot get the job done for the American people.
“President Biden and former Speaker McCarthy made a deal months ago to ensure the government would be funded through the end of the fiscal year in a responsible way.
“This constant swinging from potential shutdown threat to shutdown threat over far-right, political showmanship is irresponsible governing. I am glad we passed this bill tonight, but I think it is time for Congress to fully fund the government through the rest of this fiscal year and to pass legislation to take government shutdowns off the table as a bargaining chip.”
