Deluzio Statement Marking Five Years Since the Tree of Life Shooting
CARNEGIE, PA — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) released the following statement to mark five years since the terrible mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh:
“It’s been five years since the terrible shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue, where a gunman driven by hateful conspiracy theories and antisemitism took the lives of eleven innocent people in a mass shooting.
“This anniversary brings with it fresh grief and old wounds. Hearts are especially heavy in Western Pennsylvania as we simultaneously remember this local tragedy and process the horrors of Hamas’s deadly terrorist attack in Israel.
“To the Jewish community in Western Pennsylvania, I see your pain and share your sorrow.
“While violence against the Jewish community is sadly not new, we cannot become numb to its horror.
"Hate has no place in Western Pennsylvania or America—a nation founded under the aspirational principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
“Five years after the deadliest incident of antisemitic violence in American history, I commit that as your Congressman, I will fight against the scourges of antisemitism and hate.”
