Deluzio Statement on House Passage of Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Funding Bill

July 27, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) voted against H.R. 4366, the appropriating measure for the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Subcommittee that passed the House today.

Following the vote, Congressman Deluzio released the following statement:

“I am a proud veteran and VA patient, and one of my priorities in Congress is to fight for and defend my fellow veterans’ VA benefits and care.

“Yet again, the House Republican Majority brought their right-wing culture war nonsense to important legislation to fund the VA and military construction. The most extreme Republican members commandeered this appropriations bill, adding measures to take away abortion care from veterans, to cut off LGBTQ+ veterans’ healthcare, and so much else.

“Republican politicians in Washington keep showing us their priorities: banning abortion, protecting tax cuts for billionaires and huge corporations, and culture war rubbish. And when right-wing extremists hijack important bills, as they did with today’s appropriations bill, I will oppose them. The good people of Western Pennsylvania sent me to Washington to govern, to protect our freedom, and to fight for our shared prosperity. That is exactly what I’ll keep doing.”
