Deluzio Secures $800,000 to Replace Roadway, Waterlines, Remove Lead Pipes in Coraopolis
CORAOPOLIS, PA — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced he secured a $800,000 federal investment to replace and upgrade the aging roadway along School Street in the Borough of Coraopolis. The federal funds will produce a safer key traffic route for pedestrian/vehicular traffic and assist the Borough to reach lead pipe removal objectives.
“The American people depend on their government to provide strong, reliable infrastructure that gets them where they need to go and keeps them safe along the way” said Congressman Deluzio. “I am so proud to deliver $800,000 in federal funds for safer, stronger roads and water systems in Coraopolis. I’m proud to help get our region the highest quality infrastructure, protect our water supply, and help keep water bills down for residents.”
In coordination with the Coraopolis Water and Sewer Authority (the owner/operator of the municipality’s waterline facilities), the Borough will replace existing lead joint water mains to keep water from eroding the roadway, and to protect against dangerous toxins like lead in drinking water. Coraopolis seeks to comply with the regulatory requirements for removal of lead piping materials that come into direct contract with drinking water sources. These funds will be used to keep the Borough on track with its lead removal goals, as the project scope includes any services of lead construction to limit the need for future repairs and replacements.
This project will also help keep down future rate increases for ratepayers and customers of the Coraopolis Water and Sewer Authority, alleviating costs associated with roadway repairs and the services necessary to address potential water system contaminants. A mock-up of the project is attached and linked here.
This project in Coraopolis is one of fifteen community projects that Congressman Chris Deluzio successfully got funded for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District through the annual congressional funding bills.
Coraopolis Mayor Michael Dixon, State Representative Anita Kulik, Borough Manager Ray McCutcheon, Borough Councilmembers, and Coraopolis Water & Sewer Authority Board members and staff joined Congressman Deluzio today to highlight these funds, visit the School Street site, and receive a large check.
