Deluzio, Moylan Introduce the Veterans Housing Stability Act of 2024

April 10, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Iraq War veteran and House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Vice Ranking Member Congressman Chris Deluzio (D-PA-17) and Congressman James Moylan (R-Guam) introduced the Veterans Housing Stability Act of 2024 in the House of Representatives. This measure was first introduced in the Senate on February 1, 2024 by Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman, Jon Tester of Montana and Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee Chairman, Sherrod Brown of Ohio.

The main objectives of the Veterans Housing Stability Act are to provide affordable and stable housing options for veterans, to address homelessness, and to ensure that veterans have access to supportive services that will help them maintain stable housing. This act aims to improve the overall well-being and living conditions of veterans by addressing the unique challenges they face in finding and maintaining housing.

“Veteran homelessness is a major problem, and veterans trying to get back on track with payments should be offered options beyond foreclosure,” said Rep. Deluzio. “My fellow veterans who have earned VA home loan program benefits and have fallen behind don’t have workable options to resume their payments. I am proud to introduce the bipartisan Veterans Housing Stability Act with Congressman Moylan to help keep our promises to veterans now and in the future by giving homeowners affordable options to stay in their homes.”

“As a veteran myself, I have seen the challenges veterans face when leaving the military and rejoining civilian life,” said Rep. Moylan. “On top of that, veterans' mental health services are often inadequate and mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder are prevalent. These factors can make it challenging for veterans to secure stable housing and maintain it over time, leading to higher rates of homelessness among this population. The Veterans Housing Stability Act aims to address these specific challenges by providing targeted support and resources to help veterans find and maintain affordable and stable housing options. I look forward to advancing this bill within the House of Representatives alongside my colleague Rep. Chris Deluzio.”
