Deluzio Leads Letter to Secret Service on Security Failures

August 8, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) sent a bipartisan letter to Acting Director of the United States Secret Service Ronald Rowe Jr. requesting information on the failures surrounding the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump and how the Secret Service will prevent such failures in the future. Congressman Deluzio was joined on this letter by colleagues from the For Country Caucus (link to website), including Reps. Nick LaLota (R-NY), Brian Mast (R-FL), Tony Gonzales (R-TX), Pat Ryan (D-NY), Jared Golden (D-PA), Jeff Jackson (D-NC), Don Davis (D-NC), Steve Womack (R-AR), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and Jim Baird (R-IN).

Deluzio and his fellow veteran colleagues write in the letter, “As veterans dedicated to the security and well-being of our nation, we find this security breach deeply alarming. We believe that the safety of our national leaders is critically important and any lapse in their protection is a matter of national security. Looking forward, there will be numerous rallies and public appearances involving presidential candidates from both political parties. We seek to understand how the events of July 13th unfolded and request the following information to better understand how the USSS will prevent future occurrences.”

On July 22nd, Congressman Deluzio gave a speech on the Floor of the House of Representatives condemning the July 13th assassination attempt on former President Trump and political violence of all kinds. The video of his speech is available here.
