Deluzio, Kelly Celebrate $10 Million for Neighborhood 91 at PIT Innovation Campus

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday September 28th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the defense appropriations bill, which includes an amendment, supported by U.S. Representatives Chris Deluzio (D-PA-17) and Mike Kelly (R-PA-16) for $10 million to scale up a Resilient Manufacturing Ecosystem at "Neighborhood 91," a comprehensive additive manufacturing production campus located at the Pittsburgh International Airport Innovation Campus in Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District. 

“This funding is a huge win for the people of Western Pennsylvania and for our national mission to manufacture more here at home,” said Rep. Deluzio. “Bolstered by federal defense investments, this innovative facility around the airport is poised to grow solid jobs and boost our local economy, all while building a Resilient Manufacturing Ecosystem to provide critical parts for our military. I am proud to have worked with Rep. Mike Kelly to deliver these federal funds back home and help grow manufacturing in Western Pennsylvania.” 
 

"America was built with Pittsburgh steel and Western Pennsylvania manufacturing," Rep. Kelly said. "This funding continues that tradition and ensures that products used to support our national defense will be made right here in Pennsylvania as well." 

The amendment was included in the U.S. House version of the defense appropriations package, which now heads to the U.S. Senate for further consideration. 

BACKGROUND 

Neighborhood 91 is the world’s first end-to-end additive manufacturing production campus. Described as Pittsburgh’s 91st neighborhood, it convenes businesses spanning the Additive Manufacturing value chain in one centrally based ecosystem to create enormous efficiencies in the AM sector. Initiated in 2019 by the Pittsburgh International Airport and The Barnes Global Advisors (TBGA) to de-risk and accelerate the adoption of AM, Neighborhood 91 today includes raw metal powder production, metal AM part producers, advanced coatings, material characterization, mechanical testing, and workforce development. Current tenants include Wabtec Corporation, Cumberland Additive, Metal Powder Works, HAMR, RJ Lee, The Future of Jewelry, and Westmoreland Mechanical Testing Laboratory.
