Deluzio Co-Sponsors New Bill to Stop Invasion of Americans’ Privacy

February 7, 2025

Legislation Would Stop People with Conflicts of Interest from Accessing Americans’ Personal Information

WASHINGTON, DC  Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced that he is co-sponsoring the Taxpayer Data Protection Act.

This legislation is a direct response to the Elon Musk-led “DOGE” invasion of Americans’ privacy. It will stop people with conflicts of interest or without a security clearance from accessing the highly sensitive Treasury Department payment system–which is responsible for Social Security and Medicare benefits, among other things.

“The Musk-led DOGE invasion of the federal payment system is a dangerous move that risks the personal information and privacy of my constituents. We cannot let a man with massive conflicts of interest (like huge federal contracts) enrich himself at our expense and hurt the good people of Western Pennsylvania,” said Congressman Deluzio. “I am proud to support the Taxpayer Data Protection Act so that Congress can protect the American people and prevent unvetted and conflicted people from rifling through the private data of Americans.”

If passed, the Taxpayer Data Protection Act will curb corruption and protect privacy by ensuring that only trusted public servants without conflicts of interest and with appropriate security clearances can access the Treasury Department’s most sensitive systems. The text of the legislation is here
