Deluzio Celebrates House Passage of the Three-Year ACA Tax Credit Extensions, Urges Senate to Act Quickly to Lower Healthcare Costs

January 8, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) voted to lower healthcare costs by extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) healthcare tax credits for three more years. If passed into law, this will fend off a spike in healthcare costs for around 24,000 constituents in Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District.

The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives today with 230 votes in support and 196 votes against. 17 Republicans joined with Democrats to pass the measure. It now heads to the Senate. If the measure does not pass into law, Pennie estimates that that average monthly premium costs will increase 74% in Beaver County and 75% in Allegheny County, translating to a $137 and $125 monthly increase per member, respectively.

This vote in the House of Representatives only took place because of ongoing pressure from Congressman Deluzio and House Democrats. Today’s vote happened under unusual circumstances. Democratic Leader successfully filed a discharge petition, which essentially forces a vote on the House Floor if the majority party—currently Republicans—will not move a popular bill through committee. The discharge petition received 214 Democratic signatures and four Republican signatures to bring it to the floor for today’s vote.

Following the vote, Congressman Deluzio released the following statement:

“Life is already too expensive. Now my hardworking constituents in Western Pennsylvania are staring down budget-crushing increases in their health insurance premiums—all because D.C. Republicans let cost-saving tax credits expire at the end of December.

“Facing these massive premium increases, it's no surprise that people are deciding to drop their healthcare coverage and risk bankruptcy from an unlucky illness or a hospital stay.

“We should have extended the tax credits before they expired, but D.C. Republicans refused to join guys like me who were trying to stop healthcare costs from exploding.

“Today, seventeen House Republicans joined me and every single House Democrats to vote to extend these cost-saving tax credits. I’m glad they finally did the right thing.

“Now, the Senate needs to do their job and stop Americans from getting hammered by rising healthcare costs. We need to fix this now.”

In the fall of 2025, Congressman Deluzio fought hard to extend the ACA tax credits and lower healthcare costs ahead of their expiration deadline at the end of 2025. He amplified the stories of and met with constituents who use the ACA for their healthcare and are worried about rising healthcare costs. Congressman Deluzio also held an event with healthcare providers and local leaders about the dangers of letting premium costs spike for thousands of Western Pennsylvanians.
