Deluzio Celebrates $3,500,000 for Pittsburgh International Airport
ASPINWALL, PA – Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced $3,500,000 in federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). This grant will help fund the airport’s Terminal Modernization Program, which includes creating a new landside terminal. The new facility will streamline operations and the travel experience.
“Investing in our local community means providing people with easy access in and out of Western PA,” said Congressman Deluzio. “As the Pittsburgh area continues to develop, the Pittsburgh International Airport plays a pivotal role in assisting our region’s growth. Modernizing and improving our new terminal today means creating strong connections between Western PA and cities across both the nation and the globe tomorrow.”
“Thank you to Congressman Deluzio for his support and advocacy of infrastructure investments in our region,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “This award reflects a continued investment in a major economic development initiative for this region. We truly appreciate the ongoing advocacy for infrastructure projects by the Biden administration and its impact on our community.”
“We appreciate the administration’s commitment to improving transportation and are pleased that our Terminal Modernization Program, a brand-new terminal and a project that is being built from the ground up, was again selected for federal infrastructure funding,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “This is possible due to the ongoing support of our federal officials, and we thank them for their continued partnership.”
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides 5 billion dollars for airport development across the United States through the Airport Terminals Program. As Pittsburgh International Airport continues its initiative to update its facility, the funds announced today will serve local communities with a better passenger experience, streamline operations, improve safety, as well as increase accessibility and sustainability.
Upon completion it will drastically reduce walking distances for travelers and add security lanes to reduce wait times. Outdoor terraces will showcase the local environment, interior spaces will allow for efficient passenger flow, and there will be more space for dining and shopping. While the new terminal’s design will benefit the traveling public, its construction is supporting local businesses and workers. The new 700,000 square foot landside terminal is expected to be completed in 2025.
