Deluzio Announces $750,000 to Improve West Deer Fire Station

September 5, 2024

WEST DEER TOWNSHIP, PA — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced a $750,000 federal investment to renovate and upgrade a West Deer Volunteer Fire Company station. These upgrades to Station #3 will help add much-needed space for the firefighters and their equipment.

“Right now, this facility isn’t providing all the space and stuff these first responders need to best serve the people of West Deer,” said Congressman Deluzio. “I am proud to announce that I’ve secured $750,000 in federal funding to help West Deer Volunteer Fire Company #3 renovate their current fire station to better serve the community. This three-quarters of a million dollars will help the firefighters improve their too-small space into a top-notch fire station to serve the area.”

At close to 29 square miles, West Deer Township in the North Hills is the third largest municipality in Allegheny County. Further—the North Hills region is a growing region, leading Allegheny County in population growth even as other areas lose residents. That means that volunteer firefighters serving the area have a lot of ground to cover, and increasingly more residents to look out for.

Specifically, these funds will cover the costs of a renovation to enclose the roof canopy in the rear of the building, providing space for equipment, two trucks, air compressors, and an indoor training area. This upgrade will support the volunteer fire company’s readiness and allow them to conduct training anytime; presently, weather and light availability has been limiting training.

This project in West Deer is one of fifteen community projects that Congressman Chris Deluzio successfully got funded for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District through the annual congressional funding bills. It is one of four of his community funding project—totaling $2 million—that directly support firefighters, first responders, or police.
