Deluzio Announces $700,000 in Federal Funding for Scott Township Police Department

August 30, 2024

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, PA – Yesterday, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) joined local leaders and law enforcement to celebrate the $700,000 that he secured for Scott Township Police Department to purchase a mobile command center.

“Answering the call to protect our community is a tall order, and it requires specialized tools and equipment. That’s where today’s funding comes in,” said Congressman Deluzio. “I’m proud to bring home $700,000 in Community Project Funding to the Scott Township Police Department to support their purchase of a mobile command center. This mission critical vehicle will equip the Department to be ready to execute strong responses on the ground—whatever comes their way.”

“On behalf of the Scott Township Police Department and our entire community, we extend our deepest gratitude to Congressman Chris Deluzio for his unwavering support,” said Chief Matthew Podsiadly. “Securing $700,000 in grant funding for a mobile command vehicle will greatly enhance our ability to manage critical incidents and large-scale events with the highest level of communication and control. Additionally, we will have the ability to support our law enforcement partners from around the region. The Congressman’s commitment to public safety is truly appreciated, and this investment will have a lasting impact on the security and well-being of our Township and beyond.”

“The Township would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for Congressman Deluzio’s generous support and the $700,000 grant awarded for the development of our new mobile police command center,” said Denise Fitzgerald, Scott Township Manager. “This grant will significantly enhance our ability to provide effective and efficient responses to emergencies and improve overall public safety. The new mobile command center will enable us to better coordinate our efforts, streamline communication, and ensure that our officers have the resources they need to protect and serve our community effectively. This grant is a testament to the Congressman’s understanding of the critical needs of our local law enforcement agencies and his commitment to addressing those needs.”

The command center will provide a central hub for all the Department’s devices and equipment and provide a place for streamlined communication. It will be equipped with a private meeting room, dry erase boards, a TV, and four work-stations. Supporting large scale, multi-jurisdictional response, this unit will not only serve Scott Township, but also the 22 communities of the South Hills Area Council of Governments and beyond.

This federal investment comes from Community Project Funding that Congressman Deluzio secured in the government funding package this March, with fifteen projects totaling more than $15 million for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District. Photos from the event are available here
