Deluzio Announces $500,000 to Improve the Dormont Junction T Stop, Upgrade Public Transit Facilities in Dormont

October 28, 2024

DORMONT, PA – Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced a $500,000 federal investment to improve public transit service in Dormont. The federal funds will update Dormont Junction to modernize the nearly 30-year-old station and advance transit-oriented development initiatives to make Dormont a more accessible, safe, and walkable community.

“Public transit brings our communities together, getting people to work, school, appointments, errands, and so much else,” said Congressman Deluzio. “I’m proud to announce I secured $500,000 in federal funds for the Dormont Junction Improvement Project to help update the station, meet the needs of current riders, and build toward an even more well-connected community here in Dormont.”

Dormont Junction is a large Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) light rail transit station and services an estimated 500 weekday riders. This project would reconstruct Dormont Junction, replacing the station canopy as well as adding pedestrian amenities, safety features, landscaping, bicycle racks, and more. The goal is to create a safer and more welcoming station (particularly for pedestrians and passengers with disabilities) and to build a more walkable, accessible community in Dormont. Design will finish in 2024, with final federal approval processes occurring in 2025 before construction will begin.

This project in Dormont is one of fifteen community projects that Congressman Chris Deluzio successfully secured for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District through the annual congressional funding bills. This includes not only transit and road improvements, but also investments for police and fire departments, downtown revitalization, affordable housing, and more.

Dormont Borough Council President Jennifer Mazzocco, PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman, and Dormont Council members and officials joined Congressman Deluzio today to highlight these funds, visit the station, and receive a large check. Photos and video from the event can be found here
