Deluzio Announces $473,000 Federal Grant for the Community College of Beaver County
Funding Will Help Grow Cybersecurity Workforce to fill Thousands of Vacant 21st Century Jobs
CENTER TOWNSHIP, PA – Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced that $473,491 in National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education program grant funds have been awarded to Community College of Beaver County (CCBC). The grant will support CCBC’s long-term efforts to strengthen and expand their STEM programs and train the next generation of cybersecurity professionals amid a severe shortage.
“From my time in the Congress and before that at Pitt Cyber, I know that cyber threats bring great risk to our country. So I know firsthand how seriously we need well-trained workers in the field,” said Congressman Deluzio. “Whether it was the hack on the Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa in 2023, to what seems like weekly news of company data breaches and more—the threats are real, and folks in Western PA are ready to respond if we train them well. I’ll keep working to bring federal money like this home to Western PA to grow economic opportunity and keep all of us safe in cyberspace.”
“This grant will support CCBC’s Cybersecurity and STEM students through each phase of their journey by sparking an interest in career opportunities and providing equitable access to high quality STEM-related degree programs,” said Dr. Roger W. Davis, CCBC President. “We thank Congressman Deluzio for his strong support of CCBC and champion his vision for the future of workforce education in our region.”
The NSF’s Advanced Technological Education grant program supports partnerships between two-year institutions of higher education, other academic institutions, industry and other entities to improve the education of technicians in science and engineering. More information about this project can be found on the National Science Foundation website.
The Trump Administration’s efforts to freeze funding and pause federal grants has created significant uncertainty for grantees, varying by agency and program. As of now, the courts are involved in determining whether many of these funding freezes will continue permanently or go on pause. However, Congressman Deluzio will continue to monitor these developments and fight to make sure this congressionally-authorized funding continues going to projects that make life better for Western Pennsylvanians. If you are the recipient of a federal grant and have been notified that this funding is no longer available to you or are experiencing other issues accessing your lawfully appropriated funds, please share your concerns with Congressman Deluzio’s office at PA17Grants@mail.house.gov.
