Congressman Deluzio Announces $1 Million Federal Grant to Support Western PA Seniors, Kids

July 8, 2025

Funds Will Support the Senior Foster Grandparent Program Through Wesley Family Services

CARNEGIE, PA – Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced that $959,844 in funding from AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program has been awarded to Wesley Family Services, a regional behavioral health provider based in southwestern Pennsylvania with a main office in Wilkinsburg. The grant will support their Senior Foster Grandparent Program, which allows senior citizens to serve as mentors, tutors, and caregivers for area kids.

“A lot of our communities have seniors who feel socially isolated, and kids who need strong adult role models. Wesley Family Services’ Foster Grandparent Program brings them together to make everyone’s lives better. I’m glad to see close to a million dollars in federal support going to this community-strengthening program,” said Congressman Deluzio.

The funding was awarded by AmeriCorps, a federal agency promoting national service and volunteerism. Wesley Family Services’ grant was one of sixteen awards totaling $6,627,227 across Pennsylvania. The funding came from the FY 2025 AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions Grant Process.

The Trump Administration’s efforts to freeze funding and pause federal grants has created significant uncertainty for grantees, varying by agency and program. As of now, the courts have paused many of these freezes. However, Congressman Deluzio will continue to monitor these developments and fight to make sure this congressionally-authorized funding continues going to projects that make life better for Western Pennsylvanians. If you are the recipient of a federal grant and have been notified that this funding is no longer available to you or are experiencing other issues accessing your lawfully appropriated funds, please share your concerns with Congressman Deluzio’s office at PA17Grants@mail.house.gov.
