Congressman Chris Deluzio Votes to Protect U.S. Jobs, Increase Strategic Competitive Edge with China

January 10, 2023

The House created a new Select Committee to address rising concerns on the Chinese government’s actions that impact U.S. economy and security

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) joined members of both parties in voting to authorize the creation of a new Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.

Following the passage of the resolution, Congressman Deluzio released the following statement:

“Western Pennsylvania has been hit hard by decades of bad trade policies – shipping strong union jobs overseas and stretching supply chains. The people of my community deserve action.

“Congressman Mike Gallagher, the incoming Chair of the Select Committee, said he views the new panel as an opportunity to elevate the debate on global competition with China and to work in a bipartisan fashion. I hope that the Committee stays true to and focused on that mission. We owe it to the American people to meet the challenge of China’s rise by bringing home good union manufacturing jobs, protecting American innovations, and increasing our global competitive edge.”

The Select Committee’s goals include:

  • Restoring supply chains and end critical economic dependencies on China;
  • Strengthening the United States’ defenses;
  • Addressing the CCP’s theft of Americans’ data and intellectual property; and
  • Contrasting the CCP’s autocracy with our democratic values.
