Congressman Chris Deluzio Votes to Prevent Government Shutdown and Protect Working Families, Troops, and Veterans
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) voted to prevent a Republican Government Shutdown. The continuing resolution funding measure he supported will avert a shutdown and make sure that our troops and others are paid, Social Security offices remain open, rail safety won’t be compromised, and hungry kids won’t lose out on federal food assistance.
“Far-right Republicans tried to force a government shutdown unless we accepted their horrible cuts to things that so many in Western Pennsylvania rely on: Social Security, public school funding, law enforcement, and more—all while protecting handouts to massive corporations and billionaires. They have failed,” said Rep. Deluzio. “I voted today with a bipartisan coalition to keep our government running, but it is only a short-term fix. I will keep fighting for Congress to come together, for the Common Good, to both fund our government and put us on a more fiscally responsible path, where our government works for all of us and rewards hard work—not just wealth.”
Ninety House Republicans voted against the measure, which passed the House 335-91. If passed by the Senate and signed by President Biden, today’s continuing resolution would extend government funding until November 17th and continue other critical programs expiring today, like Community Health Centers, the National Flood Insurance Program, and more.
