Deluzio Rolls Out the Final Installment of His Defend Democracy Agenda to Protect Voters and Election Workers
CARNEGIE, PA – Today, Iraq War veteran and former voting rights attorney Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) announced the third part of his Defend Democracy Agenda, his plan to protect voters and election workers. This set of policies provides a roadmap to secure America’s elections. The slate he announced today centers on his bill, the Freedom from Intimidation in Elections Act, which would enshrine into law the rights of voters and election workers to freely exercise their duties and right to vote without threat of violence.
“As I said when I launched this Defend Democracy Agenda: I love this country, and I remain as committed to it today as I was at 17 when I entered the Naval Academy,” said Congressman Deluzio. “All of us have a part to play in this democracy of ours. In the face of political violence and attacks on the rule of law, Congress must strengthen the sanctity of our elections. With the introduction of the last section of this agenda, we have a clear to-do list of the things we can—and should—do to defend democracy. Let’s get it done.”
Congressman Deluzio’s plan to Protect Voters and Election Workers is the third installment in his three-part Defend Democracy Agenda to defend American democracy from the threat of rising political violence and attacks on democracy. This announcement follows Congressman Deluzio’s roll outs of the first and second parts of his agenda earlier this year. These slates focused on earning public trust and strengthening and enhancing voting rights, respectively.
Last week, Congressman Deluzio joined Senator Alex Padilla and other voting rights advocates to highlight the Freedom from Intimidation in Elections Act. The bill has support from a large number of advocacy organizations. Photos from the press conference can be found here.
