Deluzio Comment Marking One Year Since Marc Fogel’s Release from Russian Detention

WASHINGTON, D.C. – One year after his Oakmont constituent Marc Fogel was released from Russian detention, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) put out the following statement:

“It’s been one year since Marc Fogel came home after more than 3 years of wrongful detention in Russia.

“I was proud to work with the Pennsylvania congressional delegation across parties, two administrations, and several years to help bring my Western PA constituent home.

“It was a long road for Marc, but every American should expect their representatives and government to fight for them if they are wrongfully detained—even if they aren’t famous or powerful.”

Congressman Deluzio was sworn into Congress in January 2023 and was committed from the start to bring Marc Fogel home. The following is a summary of the major actions that Congressman Deluzio did to help secure Marc’s release (in addition to substantial advocacy from him and his staff toward the State Department):

  • June 2023: Led the Marc Fogel Act with Senator Mark Kelly and Representatives Guy Reschenthaler and Brendan Boyle

  • December 2023: Wrote a letter to Secretary of State Blinken (along with Senators Casey and Fetterman and members of the Pennsylvania Delegation) requesting that any prisoner swap include Marc Fogel and asking the administration to redouble their efforts to bring him home

  • August 2024: Wrote a letter to Secretary of State Blinken (along with Senator Casey and members of the Pennsylvania Delegation) urging the U.S. Department of State to designate Marc as ‘wrongfully detained.’ This request was granted in December 2024—a key step toward securing Marc’s release

  • January 2025: Wrote a letter to Secretary of State Rubio (along with Senators Fetterman and McCormick and members of the Pennsylvania Delegation) calling on him to do everything in his power to bring Marc home

On February 11, 2026 Congressman Deluzio put out a statement celebrating Marc Fogel’s release from Russia. He also attended the White House welcome event that night where he personally greeted Mr. Fogel and gave him a “welcome-home” Iron City beer
